“On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had preparedand went to the tomb. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them. In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee: ‘The Son of Man must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ” Then they remembered his words.” Luke 24.1-8

Put yourself in this story. It was the first day of the week—Sunday—and very early in the morning. Jesus had suffered, died, and been buried. Those who had placed their hope in Him were devastated. “How could He save others but not save Himself?” All the hope and promise seemed gone.

And yet, it was Sunday, the first day of the week. A new day. A new beginning.

The women who had come to attend to Jesus’ body arrived to complete the preparation of His body, only to find the stone rolled away from the tomb. Entering inside, they found no body. As they stood there wondering what had happened, two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning suddenly stood before them.

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He is risen!”

BEST. NEWS. EVER.

The women were then reminded of His own words: how the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinners, be crucified, and on the third day rise again. And it had happened—just as He said.

The act of Jesus overcoming sin and death is a game-changer for all humanity. Because of His resurrection, we now have forgiveness of sins, restored access to God, abundant life today, and eternal life to come.

The gift of God that began as the baby Jesus in a manger returned as the risen Christ, the conquering King who overcame the grave and grants us new life. Because He lives, we also can live.

The only thing left to do is to give Him praise and receive this gift of salvation. Billions of Christians around the world are celebrating this promise fulfilled, even as millions more are discovering the living hope found in Jesus and turning to trust Him with their lives.

So today, on this Resurrection Sunday (Easter Sunday), let us not only remember the gift of God—let us experience it in its fullness. Christ came to give us life, and life eternally.

“O Lord, You are God. You are good and faithful. Thank You for allowing us to walk in newness of life, to be forgiven by Your blood sacrifice upon the cross, and to rise again to new life. I praise You, Lord, and glorify Your name. Come now, Holy Spirit—rescue the sinners and return once again to save us. For You are good, and Your love endures forever.” Amen.
