“But he said to his disciples, “Have them sit down in groups of about fifty each.” 15 The disciples did so, and everyone sat down. 16 Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them. Then he gave them to the disciples to distribute to the people. 17 They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.” Luke 9.15-17
Consider this—the excess was more than the original.
The initial offering was five loaves and two fish. The end result was twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. What does this say about the Lord’s abundant provision?
The Wesley House of Studies (formerly known as Truett Wesley House) began in August 2020 with only two students (read our story here). Today we host nearly 25% of Truett Seminary’s total enrollment, with 130 enrolled degree-seeking students and 175 in certification programs. The seminary is reaching all-time enrollment highs, due in large part to the presence and partnership with Methodists and Wesleyan traditions. It has been a great partnership.
But without the Lord’s provision, we would certainly not have this success. We brought a small offering—myself and Dr. Billy Abraham—and God brought an abundance. The five-loaves-and-two-fish principle works on many levels!
My point? God gives abundantly to those who love and seek Him. He provides for our needs not just financially, but in every way imaginable. He is our Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End. He is the Good Shepherd, the Light of the World, the Word made flesh. He who spoke worlds into existence can take care of your daily emotional, spiritual, and physical needs. He is interceding for you before the Father. Our simple response is devotion, faithfulness, and love.
Life truly brings a lot at us. But if we place our trust in Christ, we will find blessings upon blessings.
“O Lord God, you are good and faithful. Come now, Holy Spirit; fill me with your love. Allow me to experience the blessings of your promise and to walk according to your ways. I love you and trust you, Lord. Allow your abundance to spread among your people. For you are good, and your love endures forever.” Amen.
