“While Jesus was in one of the towns, a man came along who was covered with leprosy.[b] When he saw Jesus, he fell with his face to the ground and begged him, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” 13 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” And immediately the leprosy left him.” Luke 5.12-13

Jesus was not concerned with “red tape.” He did not need a committee to follow the move of God. He did not have to call a board meeting or get approval from the government or officials. When Jesus saw something that needed to be done, when He saw God opening up opportunities for Him to move, He moved with authority.

Jesus did not have to ask anyone because He is THE authority in all areas of life and death. He is the author and perfecter of our faith. He is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. He was with God at the beginning of time. He was the Word who spoke the world into existence. So when a man with leprosy approached and asked if God in the flesh was willing to heal, to restore to creation His perfect design and image, it was a no-brainer for Jesus. He said, “I am willing,” and “be clean,” and the disease left the man. Just like that.

Don’t you wish we could make decisions and strategize quickly with that kind of power and authority? Don’t you wish we could heal with a touch, restore with a prayer, save with a spoken word? Jesus can, and He even empowers us to do much of the same—although we doubt our ability. We often lack faith, we hesitate, and we question.

But God wants to use us to do “even greater things” than He did. He wants to use us to join Him in His work of restoring a lost and broken world. Our preaching, teaching, and discipling are all part of a beautiful spiritual work of renewing creation, drawing people back into a relationship with Christ, and inviting His Kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven.

The man with leprosy asked, and Jesus acted. Just. Like. That. He did not stall, hesitate, or resist. He did the work of God immediately—the work God put before Him to do.

God is likewise putting work before us. He is inviting us to work with Him to restore this world, to win people to Christ, to announce the time of God’s favor, a year of Jubilee in which all people will find hope and life, love and grace from a loving and ever-present God.

So pray for a willingness to serve Him. Do not hesitate. Do not doubt. See where God is at work and join Him, for the sake of the world depends upon it.

“O Lord God, You are good and faithful. I love You and praise You. Come now, Holy Spirit, and restore my relationship with You that I might be made useful for the Kingdom. Come now, Holy Spirit, and fall upon us. I love You, Lord, and praise Your name. For you are good and your love endures forever.” Amen
